Thoughts about Capstone and whats to Come

Graphic Design Capstone Outline and Reflection
This course helped me come up with key information regarding what types of things I wanted to do for my capstone in Graphic Design. I have decided to take some of the quick sketches that I have been working on and further developing them. When in my Graphic Design capstone I want to learn the fundamentals of the Maya software. Learning the basics of Maya will enable me to make a three D model of my package design.
This class for me was all about research and developing good ideas for my project fallowing spring term. I have gained knowledge of things that I was previously not aware of. I have gained a better idea of how to form quick product sketches and how helpful they will be when forming my final project for my capstone.
Over the Thanksgiving holiday I talked to a friend of mine that works in LA at a digital marketing company called VML (full service digital marketing). The other side of what I am looking to do which are the design elements for companies needing artsy people to come up with logo designs and other products. He gave me great information about how the ties between the marketers and artists work together. There are small teams that include a few marketers, graphic designers, and a handful of other specialists. This team puts their brains together and comes up with great product ideas as well as other things like costs behind the projects, what the budget will be, what type of people they want to target as well as many other things pertinent to the success of their marketing campaign. This is the type of company that I would like to work for some day. The insight that my contact gave me was very helpful for coming up with what I really want to do with my life.
Now that I am a senior and two terms away from graduating I really want to be able to soak up all the information I can. This will help me prepare myself for getting a real job in the “real” world. There are many companies like, Nike, Wyden and Kennedy, and the Portland Zoo that are looking for qualified people to help add to their team. I believe that I can be one of those people after I graduate form SOU. This class really helped me believe that this is what I want to do with my life. Whether it be package design, advertising, graphic design, creating logos, or any other thing. I believe that I am well versed in the areas that I need to be in like Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Photoshop Elements, InDesign and many other programs. The last remaining program that would sufficiently help me is Maya. This seems to be the last remaining hurtle that I have to overcome.
Overall this class has helped me gain serious knowledge of what it takes to do package design layouts and what will be expected of me when I get the kind of job I want.
